Cris has dedicated her life to the art of kitchen and bath design, and her story is one of perseverance, dedication, and a true love for the industry.
Cris’ Story
Cris’ journey in the design world began when she was just 17, working as a receptionist for Bilotta Kitchen & Home, a prominent custom home builder in Mamaroneck, NY. It didn’t take long for Cris to fall in love with the world of design and creativity, realizing that this industry was her true calling. As she worked diligently at Bilotta, she gained valuable experience and insight, all while setting her sights on her dream of becoming a professional designer.
Raised in a hardworking family as the third of four children, Cris learned the value of determination and grit from her mother, Joanne, who held multiple jobs to support her family. With these values instilled from an early age, Cris embraced every opportunity for growth—both personal and professional. Supported by her mentors at Bilotta Kitchen & Home, she pursued a Certificate of Design at the prestigious Parsons School of Design in New York City.
After completing her studies at Parsons, Cris continued working with Bilotta for several years, building her skill set and reputation in West Chester and Manhattan. In 1997, she achieved a significant milestone: earning her Kitchen Design Certification through the National Kitchen & Bath Association (NKBA), a testament to her expertise and dedication to the field.
Cris’ career took an adventurous turn when she met her husband, Nick, in 1995. His career in business and finance led them to move across the country - 8 different states, to be exact. For many, this constant change would pose a challenge, but Cris embraced it as an opportunity to adapt and grow. Each move exposed her to unique design trends and regional styles, allowing her to gain a broader perspective and deeper understanding of design. Wherever Cris went, she quickly established herself as a trusted designer, seeking out and working with top design firms in each new area.
After more than two decades of enriching experiences, Cris finally fulfilled a long-time dream by launching Cris Roberto Designs in 2019. Based in Laguna Niguel, CA, her firm has become a place where passion meets purpose. Through her designs, Cris strives to create spaces that foster a sense of community, connection, and belonging. Her attention to detail, creativity, and ability to reflect her clients' lifestyles are hallmarks of her work.
Family plays a central role in Cris’ life and continues to inspire her daily. She and Nick have been married for nearly 30 years and have two daughters, Alexandra (Ally) and Andrea. Ally, inspired by her mother’s passion and success, has entered the design industry herself, pursuing her Certificate of Design from the Interior Design Institute in Newport Beach, CA, and working toward her General Contractor license. Meanwhile, Andrea is completing her degree in Business and Media Communications. The Roberto family’s two large dogs, Aspen and Bodhi, also add to the household’s lively energy.
Cris’ commitment to her craft extends beyond her business. She currently serves as the Membership Chair for the NKBA SoCal Chapter Leadership Council. This volunteer role allows her to give back to the industry that has given her so much by supporting and mentoring other design professionals and students.
